Architecture firm Cavaa Arquitectes has renovated an apartment in a multi-family building in the city of Vilanova i la Geltrú.

Vilanova i la Geltrú is a city located in the province of Barcelona and is the capital of the Garraf region. A Mediterranean city at its best, being one of the main capitals of popular and traditional culture in Catalonia.
The design of the Casa Gal·la de Cavaa Arquitectes starts from a traditional architecture of a very compartmentalized space, so they focus on an interior configuration of wide open space.

To achieve this spatial amplitude, they "blur the limits of the living areas" and link it to furniture design with its textures and colors.

Project description by CAVAA Arquitectes

This main through apartment started from a conventional structure organized with enclosed spaces, a distributive corridor and a small south-facing balcony.

The new design expands the house with a new terrace in the block’s courtyard and arranges the interior rooms to bring them closer to the expanded open space.

The project was born with the purpose of obtaining more diaphanous spaces, where the terrace, living room, kitchen and study pieces have been linked, blurring the limits of the living areas and looking for a chain of open spaces with a direct visual relationship with the exterior of the house.

The proposal is also based on the design of different furniture that unifies the language of the intervention due to its textures and colours, providing storage and services at the same time.

Cavaa Arquitectes is an architectural firm founded in 2009 by Jordi Calbetó and Oriol Vañó. Its architecture reflects the current time, a time of opportunities. They believe that each of their projects is a great opportunity, a little gem worth polishing. Their works vary from small apartments refurbishments to large facilities, with the same intensity and rigor, being aware that even if it is difficult to get a client, is still even more difficult to meet the needs of future users.

They propose a quiet and thoughtful architecture, linked to the place where it stands that "not only tells us about the materials from which it is made, but also about its rhythms, intangible spirit and the dreams of the lives of the people".
