Peter Marino in conversation with Marc Jacobs

The AF’s annual headline event and trans-disciplinary dialogue in 2013 presented New York-based architect Peter Marino in conversation with fashion designer Marc Jacobs. Taking place at Tate Modern’s Starr Auditorium the conversation, which was chaired by Penny Martin, editor in chief, The Gentlewoman, exploring the territories of fashion and architecture and the space in which these two art forms interlink.

Peter Marino is the principal of Peter Marino Architect PLLC, an internationally acclaimed architecture, planning and design firm founded in 1978 and basedin New York City. Marino's design contributions are most well-known inthe area of retail architecture where he has broken the distinctions betweencommerce and art and helped redefine modern luxury worldwide. Amongst hisclients are some of the most iconic names in the fashion and art worlds, including Louis Vuitton, where the fashion designer Marc Jacobs. was creative director from 1997 - 2013. Within ten years of his appointment at Louis Vuitton, Jacobs had quadrupled the company's profits, turning what was solely a luggage firm into a global fashion powerhouse. Collaborations with the likes of Steven Sprouse, Julie Verhoeven, Takashi Murakami, and Richard Prince created highly coveted cult pieces.

The pair, who have been in frequent collaboration since Jacobs ascended to the role of Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton, they discussed on style, desire, design and the architecture of experience and identity in a far-reaching and rare public dialogue exploring their work and ideas.
