Biography.-
Álvaro Siza Vieira, a world-renowned Portuguese architect, was born in Matosinhos, near Oporto, in 1933. He has received numerous awards throughout his long career, including the prestigious award of the Mies van der Rohe Foundation in 1988. and the Priztker prize, in 1992. Spain has a large representation of works by Álvaro Siza Vieira, among which the Meteorological Center of the Olympic Village of Barcelona (1992), especially the Galician Center of Contemporary Art (1993), stands out. the new General Hospital of Toledo (2003), the Sports Park of Cornellá del Llobregat (2005), as well as the modification of the Prado-Recoletos axis in Madrid, and more recently the auditorium of the University of the Basque Country, of more than 9,000 meters square and opened on September 21 of this year.
Álvaro Siza Vieira was unanimously awarded on November 11 with the Luso-Spanish Prize for Art and Culture, which this year celebrates its third edition, "for creating a relationship and bond of union between Portugal and Spain through its original architectural contribution and diverse, admired in both countries. " The award ceremony, worth 75,000 euros, will take place in 2011 at an official ceremony in Portugal.
