Discover the first single Bloomer, from the upcoming album "Pre-Choreographed" of composer and amazing pianist Koki Nakano.

A video directed by Benjamin Seroussi.-

"It all started with Koki Nakano wanting to make several videos illustrating his music in collaboration with contemporary dancers. I  was introduced to Koki by my producer and friend Olivier Bassuet who runs ArtBridge in Paris. I immediately loved this project and got fully involved and made it a personal project. Koki wanted to work with dancer Mariko for the Track Bloomer, a Japanese dancer with a classical background. She is currently part of LEV dance company based in Tel Aviv.

For Bloomer, Koki had a very specific image when composing it. He told me about plants and flowers blooming. That special moment when an element is in between two states. Inside / Out. Shape shifting, transforming. Going from one shape to another. We talked about this image with Mariko so that she could infuse it in her choreography for the video.

I was looking for a way to express that in the video as well. I remembered this cave in Israel shown to me by my good friend and collaborator David Tachjman.

I really like the idea to shoot Mariko inside a cave but at the same time make use of natural sunlight redirected into the cave. I really wanted to play with this idea of inner sun, fusing elements about to burst and come out.

The video was shot with my dear friend Christophe Guyon who is a very talented director of photography. We both exchanged a lot about different techniques we could use to capture this. Finding a way to let Mariko move freely but at the same time finding interesting ways to use this special place and use it to empower Mariko’s dance."
‘Pre-Choreographed’ evokes the strong “saudade” for the era when the music and the dance were very close to each other, when they used to function congenially in the society. It also means the state of the music such as  "awaiting" or even “missing” the choreography. That is to say, the character of the music is yet very “raw”, no direction is given. I always have the various images of body movements when I compose. And It helps greatly when I’m to give its own unique structure to each piece. My musics often develop as if they are to respond to body movements that I have as the image in my head.
