The design studio Masquespacio has recently completed its new project on Viale Bligny, in the center of Milan, a new restaurant for the Italian hamburger chain Bun Burgers.

The overall design has been based on the preservation of the pre-existing architecture, brick walls, and arches enhanced by the duo chromatic sequence of green and purple and new curved shapes similar to the previous ones.
Ana Milena Hernández and Christophe Penasse, Masquespacio designers, have designed this work intending to create a new identity for the brand, a renewal of its image focused on young audiences.

The Bun Burgers chain thus conveys the sophistication of its production through a fresh and contemporary design and consolidates itself as a high quality restaurant, abandoning the idea of fast food.

Description of project by Masquespacio

Masquespacio has just finished its first interior design project in Milan for Italian hamburger chain Bun.

After presenting its Memphis inspired Toadstool collection in 2016 and their collaborative exhibition with Italian terracotta artisan Poggi Ugo during the last Milan Design Week, now Masquespacio returns back to Milan with its first interior design project for Bun, located at Viale Bligny, next to the Bocconi University. The aim for the project was to create an identity with a clear focus on the younger generations and at the same time represent a more sophisticated approach for a high-quality hamburger restaurant.

During the last years there is a strong growth of hamburger chains, although most of them are opting for a vintage & industrial look for their spaces. The design developed by Masquespacio for Bun takes the opposite direction and seeks to create an innovative concept that showcases the authenticity of Bun and its smash burgers. This way Masquespacio has used gold touches and terrazzo tiles mixed with a splash of color that creates a sophisticated, but at the same time fresh design.

The project itself although starts from the investigation of the existing elements of the space with the aim to integrate them into the overall design aesthetic.

“When we saw the beautiful bricks and arcs from the space it was evident for us that we would use these 2 elements as the starting point of the design.”

Ana Hernández, creative director from Masquespacio

To create a uniform aesthetic through the space Masquespacio added additional arc forms with a green and purple color through the whole space, some totally independent and others are highlighting the already existing arcs from the interior architecture.

Additionally, the wooden table tops and plants represent the healthy and zero plastic identity from Bun.

After their successful collaboration in this project Masquespacio and Bun are now also working on several new restaurants, amongst which the next one will be Buns’ first opening in Turin.

Masquespacio, an award-winning creative consultancy created in 2010 by Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse. Combining the 2 disciplines of their founders, interior design and marketing, the Spanish design agency creates custom-made branding and interior projects through a unique approach that results in fresh and innovative concepts.

Ana Milena Hernández Palacios (b. Bogotá, 1982) brings her background in interior design (trained at Valencia Barreira) to lead the creation of spaces with a strong emotional character and meticulous attention to detail. Her professional experience includes work in Spanish studios where she developed her own voice as a designer.

Christophe Penasse (b. Belgium in 1983) contrasts with Ana by contributing his marketing background: after studying marketing, he combined his studies with work at Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, and later decided to move to Spain to co-found Masquespacio. At the studio, she is responsible for management, communication, and commercial strategy, laying the groundwork for each project to be not only aesthetically pleasing but also effective as a brand.

Throughout its history, Masquespacio has received numerous accolades: the "Massimo Dutti New Values" award from Architectural Digest Spain (2016), the "Wave of the Future" award from Hospitality Design USA (2016), the title of "Interior Designers of the Year" from T Magazine (NYT) in 2019, and the "Young Talent of the Year" award from Elle Decoration International in 2020.

Furthermore, thanks to its strategic and emotional approach, the firm has expanded its reach internationally, developing projects in Germany, Norway, the United States, Portugal, France, Italy, and other countries, while maintaining a consistent media presence in publications specializing in design, fashion, and lifestyle.
