For the first time, the International FAD Awards recognise not only quality architecture produced in Spain and Portugal but also in the rest of the world, giving an opportunity to all projects presented before de 29th of January 2014, which were finished before December 2013. The categories are: Architecture, Interior design, City and Landscape, Ephemeral Interventions and Thought and Criticism.

International FAD Awards' first edition chose four equal winners.
Puyo Hospital, Puyo (Ecuador).

Jury's valuation:
"Puyo Hospital is a great example of intelligent and efficient hospital architecture which - using temporary military hospital image and techniques - meets functional criteria optimization, program flexibility and adaptability to different contexts. Accurate means of serial construction help reduce construction times".
The New Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam (Netherlands).

Jury's valuation:
"The New Rijksmuseum is a brilliant exercise in remodeling an existing structure, through the insertion of a new central hall space and the clarification of the different exhibition areas. The intervention gives it a whole new personality without sacrificing its original character, it transforms a 19th-century museum into a contemporary equipment, capable of hosting the uses and functions an installation of this type requires today".
Solar Kitchen Restaurant, Helsinki (Finland).

Jury's valuation:
"The idea of an "unrolling carpet "(the painted surface) occupied by a temporary used (in this case a social meeting to share food cooked with solar power, a phenomenon probably very popular among Finns taking into account they have little sun) is a simple and fun idea. It stresses the fundamental aspects of architecture, community and territory / thresholds. and adds an ecological fragile but essential factor, the power of passive energy. It creates something from practically nothing".
Playhouse, Nummi-Pusula (Finland).

Jury's valuation:
"The playhouse, despite its apparent simplicity, is very calculated in its planning and organization. The two bodies are joined by the side in opposite directions. Inside each height can develop its own section sharing a single ground level space. The resulting shape resembles ancient Finnish structures such as churches, but the bar code of the painted boards reaffirms that it is a contemporary work. Each module is 15 boards wide (and oddly 29 boards deep!) and no board is cut short. This shows a high degree of planning and care in construction, but also notes that only through this level of care may the ordinary transcend. This small structure is a celebration of play and discovery and a piece of architectural research by the authors".
