Given that the units are designated an exceptionally small area, the design aims to use the available space in an efficient manner while still creating an open atmosphere. The domestic space is negotiated on a vertical plane pushing the ceiling height to 3.4 meters, the living components are basically stacked upon the vertical plane. The bathroom rests on an elevated platform, creating free space beneath for the inhabitant's individual use. With the higher ceilings, the abundance of light opens the kitchen and dining zones. The walls are finished with rounded edges to trick the eye into making corners look undefined and infinite.
As the studios are not deep, the living zones are truly pushed up against the street façade – supplying the resident with great views of the city of Shinjuku, as well as the passerby with views into the apartment. A simple curtain rail practically hidden near the window provides the necessary privacy.
