This year,
Open House Madrid has signed an agreement with the
COAM and thanks to it, the festival will assume the visits to buildings during the
Architecture Week organized by the
COAM every year.
Among the novelties in this edition, we highlight the different approaches and looks to the city of Madrid, which will diversify routes. The buildings are divided into the following topics: palaces, the architect
Antonio Palacios, private apartments in Madrid, architecture studios and energy-efficient buildings (LEED gold or platinum).
Some of the buildings incorporated this year are the
Palacio de Altamira (IED headquarters), the
Edificio Beatriz, the
Institute of Cultural Heritage known as the “Crown of Thorns” by
Fernando Higueras, the “Sail” of BBVA by
Herzog & de Meuron, the
Royal Tapestry Factory or the
Masonic temple in Madrid on Calle Juan Ramon Jimenez, which will open to the public for the first time in its history.
Following the success of the first edition, some of the buildings that will be shown for the second time will be the
Maravillas Gymnasium by
Alejandro de la Sota, the
Perez Llorca headquarters by
Rafael de la Hoz, the
Francisco Giner de los Ríos Foundation by
Amid.09, or the
Bank of Spain.
Among the events related to the OH Madrid, the 23th of this month it will be held a roundtable in collaboration with
CasaDecor, under the title "The beautiful and the useful." It will attempt to open a dialogue between aesthetics and functionality and deepen the crosscutting between interior and exterior architecture, the role of architects and interior designers in the city. Characters of the world of architecture as Izaskun Chinchilla or Belén Moneo will collaborate in it, all moderated by Paloma Gómez Marín, co-director OH.
Another event is titled "
The Shape of Things" and it will be a congress of architecture that will take place on September 23th in Centro Centro, with the collaboration of El Ser Creativo and TPI Group. It will feature the participation of Anatxu Zabalbeascoa (Presenter and moderator), Tatiana Bilbao, Beatriz Colomina, Mark Fenwick, William Menking, Farshid Moussavi and Frank Stephenson.
Open house is a festival that seeks for the involvement of all citizens. Therefore a key figure of this initiative is voluntary people, who bring added value to visits, acting as guides and managing the circuits. Currently there are already enrolled nearly 300 volunteers for the event and it is expected to exceed the 500.
