The well-known architect, professor and theorist, Vittorio Gregotti died today in Milan at the age of 92 (1927-2020), from pneumonia after being infected by COVID-19 virus.

He died at Casa Candiani, the building in the heart of Milan where he lived and which, until recently, housed the Gregotti Associati studio, closed shortly before its 90th birthday. A closing made after the transfer to Piazzetta Bossi, a few steps from the Teatro alla Scala, to continue and complete the latest projects, and then make the luxurious donation to CASVA of Milan of the studio archive, which consists of more than 44 thousand original drawings They cover a period of time from 1953 to 2002.

A few months ago we paid a well-deserved tribute to this well-known and important Italian architect, without whom the last quarter of the 20th century of European architecture would not be understood.

He studied at the Milan Polytechnic, where he was a student of Ernesto Nathan Rogers and where he obtained the title of architect in 1952. From 1953 to 1968 he worked in collaboration with Ludovico Meneghetti and Giotto Stoppino. In 1974 he founded the architectural firm Gregotti Associati srl in Milan.

In addition to his extensive number of projects around the world, Gregotti was professor of architectural composition at the Venice University Institute of Architecture, taught at the Milan and Palermo Faculties of Architecture, and was visiting professor at the Universities of Tokyo, Buenos Aires , Sao Paulo, Lausanne, Harvard, Philadelphia, Princeton, Cambridge (United Kingdom) and MIT of Cambridge (Massachusetts).

From 1953 to 1955 he was editor of Casabella; from 1955 to 1963 editor in chief of Casabella-Continuidad; from 1963 to 1965, director of Modern Building and head of the architecture sector for Il Verri magazine; From 1979 to 1998 he was Director of Review and from 1982 to 1996 Director of Casabella.
