The main building will have 80,000 sqm of interior space, including 23,000 sqm dedicated to galleries and exhibition space. The rest will contain offices, cafés, conservation labs and educational facilities. A broader project proposes a diversified program with a public garden and “creative village” that will give the possibility to visitors to participate in craft workshops and to visit shops, restaurants and cinemas.
The flour mill structure was built in 1969 with 64 concrete silos where grain was processed, and was in operation until the 1980s.
Aravena said “What is fundamental is to create something reversible. What works today for a museum might not work in the future,” looking to the existing silo structures as “clues for how to proceed” ...“We came in with no bias about museum architecture, and no real knowledge of the region.”
The Art Mill Museum will house an exceptional and international art collection assembled over the past 40 years, with multidisciplinary works of great diversity dating from 1850 to the present.

The exhibition Art Mill Museum 2030 is curated by Aurélien Lemonier, Art Mill Museum Curator of Architecture, Design and Gardens, with Maryam Hassan Al Thani, Curator, Qatar Museums Exhibitions Department. The exhibition’s Project Manager is Malak Hassan, Qatar Museums Exhibitions Department. Commissions for the exhibition have been managed by Clémence Bergal, Art Mill Museum Head of Collections and Commissions.
The exhibition has been designed by Studio Adrien Gardère, Paris, also the museographer of the Art Mill Museum.
