We know the eleven proposals to build the new Nobel Center on Blasieholmen, near the National Museum in Stockholm. The proposals were anonymous and therefore, without knowing the name of the authors to which they belong. The eleven studios are, three Danes, BIG, 3XN and Lundgaard & Tranberg, two Swedes, Johan Celsing and Gert Wingårdh, the Swiss Meili & Peter, the Dutch OMA, French Lacaton & Vassal, Japanese SANAA, Norwegian Snøhetta , and the Britain David Chipperfield.

In a few weeks will be announced the finalists, and in April next year the winning proposal.

Landing Seagulls

The Center in the Public Space The design sees the terrain as an open port platform, on which parts are deposited rather than having buildings and walls grow out of the ground. Based on this interpretation, we structured the programme into three light barrel vaults that advance as a cone from the interior of the […]

Nobelhuset

The Nobel Prize may be considered the most significant global prize for outstanding human achievements in science, literature and peacemaking in the world. Since 1901 when the first prizes were assigned the Nobel Prize has been associated with integrity, autonomy and freedom, fostering the ideals of a just and peaceful world reflecting the virtues and […]

A P(a)lace to enjoy

The Nobel Prize is not just fame and fortune. It is also about self-sacrificing work, demanding tasks, and many hours of struggles with research, with words and with strives for humanity of mankind. This is what this building will inform. It will be a home for glory, but most of all a venue that celebrates […]

Nobel Sphere

Our proposal for the Nobel Center is to create an open public park which can be used during all seasons. We aim to create a place where people can casually visit to learn about the Nobel Laureates and their contributions, or to simply relax in the open and friendly environment. The Nobel Center is a […]

PRISM

“Optics: a transparent solid body, often having triangular bases, used for dispersing light into a spectrum or for reflecting rays of light.” “Geometry: a solid having bases or ends that are parallel, congruent polygons and sides that are parallelograms.” Spectrum The Nobel Center at Blasieholmen is the common ground for the Nobel Prize Foundation, its […]

“We believe in…”

“We believe in the capability of structure to engage activities and beings; to create society” Structure of discovery Bringing activities and beings in contact in an evolving space is the double condition under which something occur : the sudden encounter between human society, a unique urban situation and incredible cultural resources. We wish to support […]

The Space Between

The work of the Nobel laureates exhibits an amazing level of hard work combined with truly new thinking. All of this with the highest of ideals. Our proposal defines the identity of the new Nobel Center in terms of the interplay between the known and the unknown. The design therefore acts as a mediator where […]

Beyond 1210

“Ever since the inception of the Nobel Prize, a building where the Nobel Prize, the Nobel Laureates and their achievements can be presented to the general public has been envisioned…” The Nobel Foundation is the living proof that an institution doesn’t need a building to rise to prominence. Despite early ambitions, throughout its existence – […]

Archipelago

The architectural concept of the new Nobel Center reflects and interprets the ‘spirit of place’ present on Blasieholmen; arising from the site specific with a solid anchoring in the Nordic spirit; while at the same time interpreting the universal phenonmenons of the solid bedrock and the topography of landscape. In this way the architectural concept […]

Butterfly

As an admired and global symbol of knowledge excellence, the new Nobel Center in Stockholm reaches outwards to the World in an open and inviting manner. Just as a butterfly’s gentle movements can have an impact on our planet, the celebrations that will take place in this building will have effects throughout our society. The […]

A Room and a Half

The Nobel Center at Blasieholmen will inject a vigorous new institution and add considerably to the ambience of the area around Nationalmuseum. This project will transform Blasieholmen into a new whole with two distinct public institutions (the other being Nationalmuseum) sited on either side of a refurbished and expanded urban pocket park. The quays on […]
