The International Festival of Cinema and Architecture, FICARQ, celebrated last Saturday, July 8 its closing gala and the awards ceremony of the winning videos. The jury in charge of this award ceremony, composed by the festival president Piluca Baquero and the members Juan Millares, Gerardo Garcia-Ventosa, Manuel Llamas, Marian Matachana and Daniel Villalobos, met on Friday, July 7 at a restaurant in Santander to take the decision.

The competition official sections are divided into two calls: "Art in the Seventh Art" in relation with fiction feature films; and "Filmed Architectures" for documentaries.

The awarded fiction feature films "Art in the Seventh Art" are:

Best fiction feature, "Kollektivet" (The Commune), by Thomas Wintemberg (Denmark) and

Best art direction to Antonio Virgilio, "Seconda Primavera" by Francesco Calogero, (Italy).

Also in this call is awarded a jury special mention for best actress '' Art in the Seventh Art'' to Laia Costa, in "Victoria" by Sebastian Schipper (Germany).

In the second section,
the best documentary film "Arquitecturas Filmed" is: "Sin Manual" by Francisco González (Mexico), a cinematographic story about the process of construction of the International Baroque Museum by Toyo Ito. Unlike other videos that tell and explain the building construction, such as timelapse videos, "Sin Manual" shows us the most humane part of a constructive work, make us be in a state of tension, and excites us through the stories of the workers. The director was able to feel in first person the reaction of the spectators during the projection of the documentary in Santander.

Due to the great variety and quality of titles presented, the jury wanted to highlight with special mention the following documentary films from the section "Architectures Filmed": "Matta Viel" by Christian Vidal (Chile), "Terramotouriesm" Collective Left Hand Rotation (Spain + Portugal), "Francis Keré An Architect Between" by Daniel Swartz (Germany + Switzerland) and "Te Novgorod Spaceship" Andrei Rozen (United States / Russia).

On the other hand, Movistar+ also delivers Special Prizes to Short films.

The award for the best short film 2017 is "Imágenes en una tormenta", by Manuel Olmedo Redondo: "For its ability to synthesize the ephemeral of the medium, to cross the screen, to explore new filmic architecture and to give verisimilitude to a story through the Atmosphere". Special mention to short films is for ''In memoriam'', PRODITEX Research Group (UEMC) and ''Espejos en el tiempo'', Sergi Pitarch Garrido.

Apart from the Official Palmares, the organizing committee awards the Honorary Awards "Puente entre las artes, 2017" to Patricia Urquiola and Manuel Gutiérrez Aragón.

With these awards, the International Festival of Cinema and Architecture closes by fifth consecutive year; a festival full of conferences, films, workshops, exchanges, art and above all, a lot of architecture and cinema. We only have to wait a year to see with what we will be surprised in the next edition.
