Ponce+Robles gallery, located in Madrid, begins the exhibition season with the exhibition "Intestinal Affaire" by the American artist Dia Muñoz, where she hybridizes science, technology and art.

The exhibition, which can be visited until the end of October, presents an interesting introspective work made up of a set of sculptures in which she basically uses two materials: wood and glass. The result is an interesting duality of pieces that arise as a result of her own personal experience after the 2020 pandemic.
After suffering from Covid-19, Dia Muñoz saw how her intestinal flora was weakened. An artist residency and her meeting with a nutrition expert led him to understand that she was happening to him. I take advantage of this situation to carry out a process of catharsis and interpret what was happening to his intestine and the problems suffered by 40% of the population. This sample is the result of her research.

With this exhibition, the Ponce+Robles gallery begins its cycle of exhibitions "Artist in Residence" within its "Permanent Connection Center" program in which it questions the role of gallery spaces today.

Description of project by Dia Muñoz

The body of work featured in Intestinal Affair is a self-portrait exploration of artist Dia Muñoz's gut health and ecology after contracting COVID-19 in October 2020. Studies show that COVID-19 patients had exhaustion of symbionts and enrichment of opportunistic pathogens, which are persistent after clearance of COVID-19. An estimated 40% of the world's population suffers from gut-related issues, creating a depleted ecology of the microbiome in the human body. In a study of 204 patients who had contracted COVID-19, 50% had developed intestinal problems as a result of the virus.

With this exhibition, the PONCE+ROBLES gallery begins its cycle of exhibitions "Artist in Residence" within its "Permanent Connection Center" program in which it questions the role of gallery spaces today. With this cycle, it is about valuing the work of the Artists' Residencies, so important for their careers, and the collaborative role of the galleries in these relationships.
