With this exhibition, the Ponce+Robles gallery begins its cycle of exhibitions "Artist in Residence" within its "Permanent Connection Center" program in which it questions the role of gallery spaces today.
Description of project by Dia Muñoz
The body of work featured in Intestinal Affair is a self-portrait exploration of artist Dia Muñoz's gut health and ecology after contracting COVID-19 in October 2020. Studies show that COVID-19 patients had exhaustion of symbionts and enrichment of opportunistic pathogens, which are persistent after clearance of COVID-19. An estimated 40% of the world's population suffers from gut-related issues, creating a depleted ecology of the microbiome in the human body. In a study of 204 patients who had contracted COVID-19, 50% had developed intestinal problems as a result of the virus.
With this exhibition, the PONCE+ROBLES gallery begins its cycle of exhibitions "Artist in Residence" within its "Permanent Connection Center" program in which it questions the role of gallery spaces today. With this cycle, it is about valuing the work of the Artists' Residencies, so important for their careers, and the collaborative role of the galleries in these relationships.
