An exhibition charting the history of the design of everyday homes in the UK. This exhibition, co-curated by television presenter Sarah Beeny, charting the story of the design and appeal of everyday homes in the UK. Through archival and original material, it explores the characteristics of a British obsession and the drivers that have shaped how and where they live - from late 18th century speculation to the present day via suburban expansion and post-war experiment.

From the first Georgian terraces to today's housing developments, the show explores the evolution of social, economic and design elements and their effect on mass housing, examining why their homes look the way the do, who they were built for, how they have been sold to us and the impact their idea of home has on our sense of identity. Around 120 drawings and other images from the RIBA collections are on display, along with a timeline that leads visitors through the past two and a half centuries of British homes.

Venue: RIBA, 66 Portland Place, London, W1B 1AD. U.K.

Dates: Until Sat Apr 28.
