Award in the category  of Degree Project

The Spanish Ceramic Tile Manufacturers’ Association ASCER is launching the eleventh Tile of Spain Awards in Student´s Graduation Projects category. This Competition is aimed to enhance the use of Spanish ceramic tiles among young national and international architects. As a novelty, it is noteworthy that two of the four projects featured with honorable mentions are in schools of architecture students from outside Spain.

The jury agreed to award first prize to "Tissue Found - l'unité flottante, inhabiting Alexander" M ª Dolores Parrilla Ayuso, School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM). In this project, the jury highlighted "the transformation and recovery of an old ship as a hostel for pilgrims with an intervention that uses a new patent textile ceramic. The contrast between the strength and lightness of the proposal is very suggestive. And that suggestion is evident in the drawings presented this idea "

The jury, given the high quality of the projects submitted to the competition, has agreed to grant four honorable mentions to the following projects:

_“The Lost Tanka Archipelago” by Michelle Lam, from Master of Architecture, University College London, from which the jury praised "the contributions in investigating the possibilities of the ceramic material."

_“Isla-cementerio in Fleves, Grecee” by Ángela Juarranz Serrano of the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM), for his "understanding of the importance of place to achieve a symbolic value in the continuity of the landscape."

_“New value” by Benjamin Reynolds of the Architectural Association School of Architecture in London. The jury highlighted "the sophistication and irony of the project to use the design process to interrogate the social reality and the power imbalance."

_"Reactivation of the old cinemas in Lisbon-theater" of Ana González Pérez of the School of Architecture of Madrid (ETSAM), which has been rated "the regeneration of an area of Lisbon creating gaps and holes, reusing abandoned theaters and creatively using ceramics characterizes the center of downtown Lisbon."
