Architecture studio SEA Arquitectos was commissioned to design a single-family home on the outskirts of the municipality of Feáns, south of the Galician city of A Coruña. The project plot belongs to an isolated environment, in which the architects sought an active landscape integration, which was not mimetic with the environment, but managed to go harmoniously unnoticed.

The design has a useful constructed area of 238.88 square meters, spread over the 1,198.00 square meters that the plot houses. The house is presented as a solid volume of homogeneous material, a materiality that continues throughout the roof, creating an almost archaic shape whose texture softens through the gaps.
The design by SEA Arquitectos for the “Hutmann House”, volumetrically, is formed by a single block that is located slightly displaced towards the back of the plot with a rectangular floor plan. The compact volume has a hipped roof, in which two of its sides, thanks to a setback of the house in front of the façade, generates a covered corridor that reaches the garage. To maintain a natural feeling inside the house, a skylight was installed to provide overhead light.

Materially, the project is built with concrete with an almost textile-colored finish that is continuous between façade and roof, and thanks to the gaps that allow passage to the semi-exterior hallway, the sensation of softened monumentality is generated on the façade. Black concrete is composed of dark aggregates with green and white tones that generate a relationship with the natural environment.

Description of project by SEA Arquitectos

In a fairly isolated environment, we were looking for a landscape integration that does not want to blend in with its surroundings but to pass harmoniously unnoticed.

The house is a massive and forceful object, almost monumental. The intention is to create a clear sense of protection to the inhabitants with a material that faces the outside and contrasts the warm interior. The materiality of the walls continues throughout the roof creating an almost archaic form whose texture gradually softens through the voids we create in the concrete with an almost textile hue but which, like the exterior, shows its composition as would each voussoir of an arch. The black concrete has dark aggregates with green and white shades that try to generate a relationship with the natural environment as well as give a scale to the whole.

The day space wants to be protected from the outside, but we also want it to provide certain sensations of the natural state of the human being of a nature with which we have been living for about 2.5 million years, therefore, we propose the zenithal sunlight as a natural relationship with the human being.

The interior-exterior boundary is gradually resolved through the hollowing out of an artificial stone that we created to house the best possible life inside it.
