Arquia/ próxima is the cultural program of the Caja de Arquitectos Foundation designed to provide support for Spanish architects in their first ten years of practice. The arquia/proxima program has already become a benchmark for the status of the isuue surrounding the emergin architecture in Spain.
With only three editions, and in the words of the last curator Carlos Quintans, is "an event expected to test the vitality of the younger architects to look toward something that still remains hidden, and that could be the inmediate future promises, and of course, become a party and a tribute to the hard work of those who begin in this profession of architecture".
The jury, composed by nine members of international prestige, made an online selection among 1445 registered accomplishments, wich subsequently struggled to reach the decision that completed the selec tion of 120 projects, 24 finalists, three entries, and the prize. The definition of the jury is part of the task of the curator. In this edition, the bet was based on the incorporation of the exterior view, more women, the North-South stress and the need to include an expert planner. Notably, in addition to a jury of excellence, work search embodiments are developed with the support and collaboration of over forty ambassadors distributed throughout the country, who worked actively to reach those places where access to the information is more difficult, or where the program is poorly understood. Detected a higher turnout than in previous editions (the figure is really significant), and a high quality and diversity in the work presented.
In the 120 selected projects, has primacy representation to show the different "roles" of young architects who are developong thir work in the finding new formats, either through commissions or self-commissions, or new forms of collaboration, participation, communication and teaching.
This selection arquia / proxima tries to show the architecture scene by those with less than ten years of qualification, a reference radiograph state of affairs, a real scanner situation regarding young production in Spain with the idea of revealing or disclosing something not yet recognized.
