Last October, one of his works entitled "Girl with a balloon" after an auction at Sotheby's was awarded for 1.2 million euros. Actually the news came later, when after the sale an internal hidden mechanism partially crushed the work, going to be called "Love is in the bin", action that far from being a criticism of the market caused its value to double. An artist who tries to escape capitalism by falling into their networks unfailingly. The exhibition has already passed through Moscow and St. Petersburg, after a resounding commercial success.
FROM MURALISM TO GRAFITI
by Agustín Patiño
This is a brief tour in the historical context of the history of painting from "Social Realism" in 1930 to "Abstract Expressionism" (Pollock and Rothko) from 1940, in the middle of the first world war and post-war in Europe, the Mexican Revolution, at the moment in which the pictorial artists and geniuses of the spatula, brush and the "fat brush", from the moment in which began to take shape in 1923 the images of the revolutionary people enraged by the foreign repression, with Diego de Rivera as one of the most important representatives of muralism, or Pablo Picasso in Spain, and making a tour of Conceptual Art, and the new avant-garde movements such as "Land Art", Installations, Art and Language.
Later, Pop Art, cultivated in the "Factory" of Andy Warhol, and the great protagonist of this writing the great Jean Michel Basquiat, placing him as one of the greatest painters and graffiti artists of all time, to land back in the graffiti of young vandals that was born in New York in the 60s and is maturing as an art, with very important representatives in the whole world, South America, North and Europe.
I must mention Bansky, the most controversial English graffiti artist of recent times, becoming an unknown to many, given that until recently his real name was unknown, because he did not allow interviews or meetings. At present we know a lot more about him, personally I think he is a kind of artistic showman, with a clear strategy to achieve fame, although we must not fail to recognize the great value of his graffiti.
Making a backward analysis, in a previous context, we can find Xavier Prou known as "Blek le Rat", French artist, who presents his work in 1983 in an article in the newspaper "Le Monde" in Paris. There are many graffiti artists influenced by their art, curiously the one that is most influenced by this artist is Bansky, from which we can make a comparison in technique, color and even similar theme.
In this 2018 in Russia at the Central House of Artists of Moscow, there is an exhibition of Banksy, in which they charge to see the exhibition between 7 and 18 Euros, the supplement of the newspaper ABC, El cultural, on August 21 2018, it said:
"The street artist Banksy, whose identity remains secret, has been annoyed in social networks after discovering that a Russian museum is exhibiting his works without his permission."
It is hard to believe that an institution such as the Central House of Artists in Russia has risked an action like this, is it an artist's strategy to earn money in complicity with a character from the institution?
In parallel, which for many is considered a forerunner and teacher of Banksy, Blek le Rat, and who is known as the "Father of graffiti of the template", with less controversy, he visited San Francisco for his new individual exhibition
"Lets Get Romantic" at the Weinstein Gallery, in San Francisco USA, a high-quality individual exhibition, as befits this brilliant artist, with works from 1983 to the present.
A reflection remains in the air, while Xavier Prou makes exhibitions of great quality, Bansky is always surrounded by scandals or street fights, it will be true what many articles entitled
"Banksy, Genius or impostor?"
