The architecture firm Bxd Arquitectura was commissioned to design the Barceló Hotel “Occidental Barcelona 1929,” strategically located on Diputación Street, in one of the most monumental blocks of Plaça d'Espanya in Barcelona.

The project, led by architects Francesc Buixeda and Maria Barcina, is formally defined by the straight and curved layout of Creu Coberta and Diputación Streets and, in turn, is characterized by a contemporary ambiance with unique architectural elements that seek a balance between comfort, aesthetics, and functionality.

The "Occidental Barcelona 1929" hotel, designed by Bxd Arquitectura, comprises a nine-story building with an interior courtyard. The main entrances and common areas of the hotel are located on the ground floor, while the upper levels house 152 guest rooms. Finally, the rooftop terrace and swimming pool are situated on the roof level.

The building's façade, with its vertical, checkerboard pattern, features a combination of white limestone and sulfurized brass-colored metal framing. Two-story blocks are grouped together to achieve a subtle integration into the urban landscape.

The exterior façade with a vertical composition and in the form of a checker board, groups the floors two by two with the intention of adjusting the scale of the building to allow better integration into the urban fabric.
