Andrés Perea Ortega (1940 - 2023) passes away

Yesterday, Andrés Perea Ortega architect, passes away in Madrid. He died after being diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of last year. I met him one night at dinner with other friends when I was finishing my architecture studies, at a dinner organized by another good architect Alfonso Valdés, in 1990 and I was lucky to maintain his friendship throughout all these years.

I will remember Andrés for his erudition, his work as an architect, his virtuosity with the guitar, and his lucidity and passion for architecture. Passionate, vehement, and always full of energy, something he did not lose until the last moment.

I think that the best tribute that we can pay him from here is that he was able to see, and remember the extraordinary recognition items that were made to him last year on the occasion of the declaration of METALOCUS Building of the year 2022.

Andrés Perea

Andrés Perea Ortega (Bogotá 1940 - Madrid November 16, 2023) was born in Bogotá, due to his family's exile during the Spanish Civil War.

A Spaniard, he studied at the ETSAM, graduating in 1965.

His long professional career has allowed him to share with countless architects collaborators in constructive production, and students of Architecture here as a teacher, researcher, and understanding of architecture, always as creative work.

An effort that has earned awards and distinctions, and also failures and mistakes as the human being he pretends to be.

Madrid, Bogota autumn 2022.
