The architectural studio Pedro Carrilho Arquitectos recovers an old building for refurbishment and transforms it into a new residential block. This project is located on Graça Street in the city of Lisbon.
The project aims to enhance the historical value of Graça Street and preserve the urban and aesthetic values of the city. It is an architectural reformulation that distributes 7 dwellings.

The residential building by Pedro Carrilho Arquitectos seeks above all to preserve the essence of the architecture of the Portuguese city. This work renews architectural elements but always recovering and taking into account its existing references.
The distribution is established with a commercial premises on the ground floor and 7 small flats on the rest of the floors. We highlight its bluish façade, this chromatic decision aims to revive the spirit of the street and give rhythm to its composition.

Description of project by Pedro Carrilho Arquitectos
Graça 117 is one of the rehabilitation projects that contributed to the valorization and preservation of the Graça's street urban unity, in Lisbon, as a part of a set of buildings with history.
Like many buildings in Lisbon, this intervention required a general restructuring, with architectural features recovery, respect for pre-existing references, and reformulation of housing layout.
For the housing concept, it was designed 7 small T0 apartments, for a short stay, functional, and suitable for this purpose. On the ground floor, the commercial store space was maintained to preserve the spirit and sounds of the neighborhood.
As an integral part of the street profile, it was chosen a singular color for the main façade – navy blue – which creates a chromatic rhythm on this urban front.

Céline Lópes. She holds a degree in Architecture from the Catholic University of Louvain. She was awarded 2021 the 'Hera Prize for Sustainable Architecture 2021.
