The architects Botticini + Facchinelli ARW have designed a private house on the hill of Cremignane, a town that belongs to the city of Iseo, in the region of Lombardy. Located in front of Mount Adamello and the Iseo Lake, the house opens its views towards the Natural Reservation of the Sebino's peat bog.

The project of Botticini + Facchinelli ARW  is based on its relationship with topography and landscape. Its C-shaped plan embraces the landscape, and makes independent the views of the public parts, oriented towards the central courtyard and Mount Adamello, from the most private ones, which point towards Lake Iseo.

The house takes advantage of the unevenness on which it is inserted, creating an inferior space to locate the parking lot and the access staircase, leaving the dwelling spaces on the top floor for the complete enjoyment of the views.

Natural materials, such as wood, are used in a contemporary way, harmonizing the home with the colors of the landscape.

Description of project by Botticini + Facchinelli ARW

The project is sited on a hill, addressed towards Adamello's Mountain and the Iseo lake, with a view that opens to the Natural Reservation of the Sebino's peat bog. The house defines its mode of settlement since the very strong planning constraints but mainly from two foundational elements: the relationship with the ground and the relationship with the landscape.

The intention is to create a model of the relationship with the place, which looks like always existed but, at the same time, be an expression of an idea of contemporary domesticity.

The house has an irregular plant in C, a kind of open hand that wants to embrace, capturing the relationships with different surrounding geographical horizons, selecting the view of both sides of the living room facing the court and the mountains: the house is configured in this way as a suspended ceiling between the ground and the sky.

In its relation with the ground, the house is placed on an upper level regarding the site. This solution enables to maintain the house with a very low volume, taking advantage from the different height in direction to the entrance, where it is possible to obtain a space for the parking lot and for a staircase, that is connected with the upper floor.

The use of natural materials, such as wood, enhances the house and links it strongly to the colours of the landscape.
