Door 19 is a new entity in the Moscow bar and restaurant business, the 'pop-up', which has become a trend in London, New York, Dublin, Berlin, Barcelona, and other major cities around the world. Such temporary restaurants appear in the most unexpected places; from abandoned factories to derelict churches, quickly gutted and fitted fresh for new purposes. Door 19 will be the inaugural venture within the framework of ArtKvartal - a city-wide project, supported by the Government of Moscow.
"Moscow still lacks a centre of gravity, which in New York became Williamsberg, and in Berlin, Mitte", so says the designer of the project, Andrei Grinyov. "Aspiring to create a Moscow counterpart, we at ArtKvartal are developing the idea of breathing new life into the once-quiet semi-industrial areas of the old city".
The best street artists in Moscow and Europe, together with a team of the architectural studio P H. D turned it into a temporary club Door 19, which was visited by more than 12000 people during the 6 weeks of its work.
In its rendition of the pop-up club concept, ArtKvartal has far exceeded the usual pop-up parameters, linking together an inpromtu spirit of instantaneous creation, but doing so with exquisite taste, with attention to detail, where no stone has been left unturned.
For exactly thirty days, Door 19 will merge the spheres of gastronomy, design, music, and art, altogether in a concept where artists and guests exercise democracy in directing a unique creative venture in an atmosphere where the best of everything is expected, and provided.
The adventure will begin at the entrance, which is itself a work of art, you will be welcomed into the slanted loft-space, a space with nine-meter ceilings. The adventure will continue with culinary delights and cocktail wizardry performed by top bartenders, and on the walls, great art from around the world will be displayed.
The conversion of the Door 19 attic-space into an art-space has been entrusted to the curator Kitty Obolenska, who has gathered for Door 19 a group of young progressive artists, including the canvas and sculpture artist Kostas Seremetis (New York), Charlie Aiso (Berlin), Russ Karablin (Los Angeles), and the young art group Crocodile Power (Moscow). The walls of the loft will also be reworked by a team of international street artists. One of Moscow's most renowned graffiti artists, Zhenya Ossik (a.k.a., 0331Crjv), will use a paint-equipped fire extinguisher to artify the ceilings, and for the restrooms there shall be giant murals also. Valerie Tshack, an erstwhile member of the liberal movement 'Radik', will decorate the walls with his socially-conscious art. And the Barcelonian, Pejac, whose work is usually tree-related, will not depart from this when it comes to Door 19, when at the opening ceremony the guests' will be able to see him in action, painting fine pictures of birds.
