In March of last year, the archive was packed into shipping containers—where they sat for nearly a year while the museum waited for permission to export the collection. Initially, an Arts Council committee placed a temporary block on the archive’s export in the hopes that a UK based buyer could be found instead. Now the sale was approved by the UK's government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport
The archive spans drawings and models produced by the 1960s group, over 10,000 images, half of which have being digitized and made available to the public for free by the University of Westminster in 2010.
Set to open later this year, the museum designed by Herzog & de Meuron will focus on 20th and 21st century design and architecture, moving image, and visual art from Hong Kong, Asia, and beyond.
