On the occasion of the reading of the verdicts and award ceremony of the 6th Maresme Architecture Exhibition + the Puig i Cadafalch Awards of Mataró and Maresme, the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) and the City Council of Mataró, have awarded a total of eight building works from among the 47 projects presented in the Spanish region, located in the province of Barcelona.

The Architecture Exhibitions are an initiative of the COAC to highlight the good work done in the field of architecture in Mataró and the region. Likewise, the exhibitions are a reference to the collective memory of the most current architectural and landscape culture of the country.
These three contests have had the participation of 47 works, 16 of which are located in Mataró. This allowed them to compete for the Puig i Cadafalch Prize in Mataró in addition to the other two awards.

The three awards aim to highlight the good work produced in the region, as well as to raise awareness of the work of architecture professionals throughout the territory and to bring Catalan architecture closer to society as a whole.

The 15th edition of the Puig i Cadafalch Awards of Mataró in the interior design category went to the project for the refurbishment of 12 dwellings in the historic center, designed by architect Rosa Brullet. Another winner of this award, but in the rehabilitation modality, was the interior design project for the CABSA gastronomic space, by Jmp Land Art Scape Architecture. The Parc Vallmora del Masnou project by batlleiroig receives, in turn, the 3rd Puig i Cadafalch Award of Maresme award.

Description of project by COAC

6th Exhibition of Maresme Architecture

Organized by the College of Architects of Catalonia (COAC) through its representation in the Maresme and by the City of Mataró, the 6th Maresme Architecture Exhibition has the main objective of contributing to the knowledge and appreciation of the architecture that is being carried out in the territorial area of the region.

In this edition, and with the aim of giving greater visibility to the good work done in the territory, the jury of the Sample has decided to highlight eight works as winners of the modality I (building) among the 47 that have been presented to the call.

· Casa-Estudi in Canet de Mar, de Valor-Llimós arquitectura. It puts the quality of the space ahead of the buildability and it is remarkable the integration of its volumetry in the urban environment.

· Reform and extension of a family house between party walls in Vilassar de Mar, by Ramon Andreu Muñoz and Núria Canyelles Torrents. It highlights the spatial work and the treatment of that located between the private space and the street.

· House 1819 HV in Calella, Ofici: Architecture. We want to highlight the courageous attitude of emptying the interior of a house of cós.

· FGüell House - HF19 in Masnou, by the architects Àlex Gallego and Gerard Puig. Another example of improvement of a sewing house bringing light to the central part of the house.

· Reform and extension of a house between party walls, Ca n'Amunt d'Arenys d'Amunt, by the architect Gerard Puig. It is a good example of how the transformation and improvement of a central courtyard gives spatial quality and light to the house.

· 6 houses in Cabrera de Mar, by TWOBO arquitectura. The discretion in the application of materials and the dexterity of the placement of the building in the environment have been valued.

· Redevelopment of Plaza Cataluña del Masnou, Comas - Pont arquitectes. The sensitivity and the strategy used to create a neighborhood have been evaluated.

· CABSA. Espai gastronòmic en Matarò, de jmp land.art.scape.architecture. The creation of a serene and harmonious space has been valued.

On this occasion the jury has also highlighted as selected eight more works: five of them in modality I; and the other three in modality II (other ways of working beyond the fact of building).

- Puig i Cadafalch Awards in Mataró

The Puig i Cadafalch Awards were created in 1984 by the City of Mataró on the initiative of the Heritage Council, as a recognition to all those people (technicians, developers, builders...) directly involved in the process of making possible a quality architecture within the reach of the citizen and in the most immediate environment, thus contributing to generate the future heritage of Mataró.

In its 15th edition, in the modality of interior design, the jury has awarded the minimalist and forceful intervention made in CABSA. Espai Gastronòmic. The creation of a serene and harmonious space enhanced by the unity of materials, chromaticism and light has been valued. The project is the work of the architects jmp land.art.scape.architecture.

In the renovation modality has been awarded a project of 12 houses located in the street Sant Simó corner with Don Magí, the architect Rosa Brullet. In a space conditioned by the pre-existing buildings and the surroundings of the historic center, the jury has valued the success of a project that manages to solve the program of 12 rental housing combining it with the maintenance of the catalogued facades and the opening of an interior patio that allows to solve the issue of access and ventilation of the housing.

The jury, made up of municipal representatives, has made a special mention of the interior design project of the Anison hairdresser by Xavier Martín Báez and the renovation of La Riera 33 by Eduard Mayoral i Jové. Four more renovation projects have also been highlighted: the rigour in the restoration of some façade sgraffito and three interventions respectful of the small grain of the fabric built of the sewing houses of Mataró.

- Awards Puig i Cadafalch del Maresme

Lastly, With the aim of recognizing and promoting one of the most important assets of the region of Maresme -its architectural and environmental heritage- the City of Mataró has convened the 3rd edition of the Prize Puig i Cadafalch del Maresme.

In this, the prize has been for the Parc Vallmora del Masnou by batlleiroig, an empty space that has become an environment of relationship between the landscape and the urban. The jury, formed by the architects and representatives of the Heritage Council of Mataró and a representative of the CAATEB, wanted to reward this work understanding that the recovery of heritage is also the recovery of the landscape.
