On the occasion of the Expo Milano 2015 Caritas presents this small eco-sustainable pavilion designed by Piuarch and based on the concept 'divide to multiply'.

The Edicola is the name given to this construction created by Francesco Fresa, Germán Fuenmayor, Gino Garbellini and Monica Tricario, founders of Piuarch, for the Expo Milano. This pavilion stands out for its simplicity and uniformity. It consists of five structures which, although different from one to another, are unified by the white pretensioned mesh that forms its exterior image and provides natural light and ventilation at the same time.

'Divide to multiply. Breaking the bread' is the theme represented in three dimensions in the pavilion with which Caritas takes part in the Expo; indeed, the architectural concept centres around the idea of sharing as an opportunity.
The Edicola, this is the name of the small pavilion, has the appearance of a fragmented cube, the structure has been designed keeping simplicity at the core of its composition and the unadorned nature of its appearance.
The structure is divided into 5 structures that are similar to each other but of different sizes and designed for different purposes. They are positioned on the ground and joined by vertices, a reference to the Edicola’s typical square floor plan. The uniformity of the construction is provided by its structural profile characterized by the same external dimensions, colour and materials.
Thanks to its extremely simple structure, the Edicola is truly eco-sustainable. Externally, it is made of plastic pretensioned mesh that lets the air flow through without any need for air conditioning and lets in natural light which helps keep energy use to a minimum.

Piuarch studio was fomed by Francesco Fresa, Germán Fuenmayor, Gino Garbellini and Monica Tricario in 1996 out of a desire to merge different experiences into a shared architectural project.
The studio is located in an open space in a former industrial building that once hosted a typography business in Brera, in the centre of Milan. Here, Piuarch designs public buildings, office and residential complexes, commercial spaces, boutiques, shopping malls and even urban plans, with the contribution of consultants from various disciplines.
Piuarch has pursued these themes participating in competitions, developing projects from the planning to the final construction phase, elaborating interior design projects.
In recent years Piuarch has developed a number of projects abroad. It is active in China, Algeria, Russia, where it has recently opened an operational office, and in Ukraine, with ongoing and realized projects.
