The rehabilitation project of house 1603, designed by Nordest Arquitectura, consists of the intervention in a house with a traditional structure typical of the area of the small town of Begur in the region of Baix Empordà, on the coast of the Costa Brava.
The project aims to connect the different levels of the house, enhance the relationship with its immediate exterior, and expand the house with a new living room and a room linked to the landscape.

The different spaces that make up the first floor in the project by Nordest Arquitectura follow a logic of adherence, which articulates and connects the rooms. Because of this, the visual relationship between the spaces is articulated, allowing to discover the space as the user walks through it.
The materials used have been selected to differentiate the pre-existing areas from those of the new construction so that the language of the house is clear to show the different stages that the building has gone through.

Description of project by Nordest Arquitectura
The House 1603 is a town home, with a structure of stone bearing walls and traditional elements typical of the Baix Empordà area. It is located in the heart of the small town of Begur, characterized by its mountainous landscape and its rocky beaches.
The project was born from the need to connect the different levels of the house, enhance the relationship of the kitchen with its immediate exterior spaces - making it the heart of the house - and finally, expand the house with a new living room and a room connected with the nice views of the landscape.
On the ground floor, we find the main living spaces. The different spaces that make them up, follow a logic of aggregation, that articulates them one after the other, without corridors, so that a concatenation of spaces is generated that allows visuals to cross and discover the different rooms as we move forward.
The first floor is formed by the sleeping area together with a multipurpose space that functions as a connector as well as a living room. We also find three insuite bedrooms, two in the renovated part of the house, and the last one in the new extension.
The materialisation of the project, is thought to understand what exists from the beginning in the original building from the new parts, so that the different stages that the building has experienced can be understood.
To solve the connectivity between levels, a concrete body arises from the interior of the house, expressing itself as a cut-out volume that acts as a staircase. Understood as a massive element, it dialogues with the heavy character of the original building. The facade facing the garden, on the other hand, is resolved with a traditional reinterpretation of the curtain wall that acts as an interstitial void between the old and the new. Respecting the materials of the original house and adding new elements that enhance its essence, allows us to maintain the character that defines it.

Nordest Arquitectura team is founded by Jordi Reimbau and Miquel Rusca, two young architects who decided to join after years of collaboration. Leaving aside the concept of "partners", the office brings together collaborating, technical and business architects. Integrating the transdisciplinarity of knowledge to architecture.
Jordi Reimbau Ribot. Born in Sant Feliu de Boada, he has been an architect at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia since 2003. After collaborating in various architecture studios in the city of Barcelona, he founded, in 2004, together with Anna López, the TAB_arquitectes studio. In 2011 he created his own studio, This is Estudi d’Arquitectura, in which he develops projects in the Girona region, mainly in the Baix Empordà area. In early 2016, together with Miquel Rusca, he formed the society This IS Estudi d’Arquitectura SLP. In 2018 he founded together with Miquel Rusca Nordest arquitectura SLP.
Miquel Rusca Mestre. Born in Sant Sadurní de l'Heura, he has been an architect for l'Escola Politècnica Superior d'Arquitectura de Girona, since 2014. After collaborating in the family office of Domènec Rusca for 6 years, in 2012 he collaborated with the Hidalgo architecture studio- Hartmann in Barcelona. In 2014 he collaborates with Jordi Riembau's This Is Estudi d’Arquitectura studio. In early 2016, he joined the This Is Estudis d’Arquitectura SLP Society. In 2018 he founded together with Jordi Riembau Nordest arquitectura SLP.
