The team formed by the BAILORULL and Yolanda Olmo architecture studios have designed «Illa Natura» as more than just a residential housing project in Torressana, located in the municipality of Terrassa, Spain.

Result of urban planning, we find a triangle-shaped plot that treats the interior of the block as an extension of the green environment located at the limit of the urban fabric.

The block, which rises with a building organized in a U shape, closes itself to the urban fabric, while on the other hand, it tries to prolong the surrounding green area.
The design, by BAILORULL and Yolanda Olmo, proposes continuity between the two plots that we find in the block thanks to the ground floor and parking levels, and proposes undoing the original triangle-shaped plot, through a building with a central cut that facilitates the typology of the homes and reinforces its slenderness.

The building closes the exterior façade through a succession of window modules and the materiality of brick, creating different closed volumes projected from the exterior façades that generate variation in the typology of the home to adapt to the needs of the market.

In the interior patio, on the contrary, we are committed to the continuity of the existing green environment, opening numerous balconies, which, are strategically oriented and separated to maintain privacy, alternate their position, and generate large outdoor spaces as a result. inside of the apple.

The prominence of brick, a traditional material of the municipality and the neighborhood, gives character and personality to the project, highlighting the proposal's commitment to the context in which it is located.

Description of project by BAILORULL and Yolanda Olmo

The volume and general implementation of the building are given by the planning, only altered with the proposal of continuity between the two plots of the site (the U-shaped building and the tower) through ground and parking levels.

The project treats the interior of the site as an extension of the surrounding green area at the boundary of the urban fabric.
The texture of the exterior façade is a result of the combination of a window module and the rough materiality of the brick. A traditional material in the municipality and the neighborhood.

The closed volumes projected from the exterior facades generate variation in the typology of the housing unit so as to adapt to the market necessities.

Balconies in the inner courtyard are concrete slabs that grow in and out resulting in generous outdoor spaces. They are intentionally oriented and separated to generate privacy between neighbours, thus avoiding the use of screens.

The tower has a clear intention of undoing the original triangle shaped site with a centred cut that facilitates the housing typology and reinforces its slenderness.
