Within the framework of the UIA-UNESCO International Congress of Architects and Barcelona 2026 World Architecture Capital, Arquitecturas Afectivas presents "The House of Encounter with the Other," a space that invites the public to reflect on new ways of meeting and connecting. With the participation of international artists, thinkers, and activists, the project explores the role of architecture as a fertile ground for fostering connections between bodies, cultures, and species that are often fragmented.

From June 22nd, for two weeks, the initiative offers a series of activities that invite visitors to engage with the affective essence of architecture and the city. The sequence of rooms, constructed with sacks of fertile soil and native Mediterranean seeds, is offered as an alternative space for exploring new forms of presence and connection.

Arquitecturas Afectivas will lead the opening and closing rituals, inviting the public to experience the house as a relational field where presence, listening, and shared silence transform the way we connect.

As part of the program presented for "The House of Encounter with the Other," a series of artists and thinkers will be invited to explore different dimensions of human connection: La Ribot and Jone San Martín will open the house through the body and embodied perception; filmmaker and writer Diego E. Osorno will address the visible and invisible boundaries that permeate our relationships; and Payzee Mahmood will activate the house as a space for emotional healing and deep listening.

Taken together, "The House of Encounter with the Other" offers itself as an alternative space that invites us to feel differently. In the face of a world marked by emotional distance, isolation, and fragmentation, the project proposes a new way of approaching others, through affection, empathy, and dialogue.

Project description by Arquitecturas Afectivas

Performance 01.- The house of encounter with the other invites Affective Architectures
"The house of encounter with the other" opens in Can Framis with the performance of Arquitecturas Afectivas, a community that develops architecture with pleasure. The inauguration on June 22 at 8 p.m. is an opening ritual to create for two weeks a space that makes us inhabit the encounter, ask ourselves about the other, locate it in myself, and in this way be able to transform the emotional place from which I look at the other in the city of Barcelona.

Performances 02.- The house of the encounter with the other summons Payzee Mahmod
The Kurdish-British activist Payzee Mahmod presents an intimate and deeply human intervention about reunion, vulnerability and the value of looking at the other after pain. Based on her own story – marked by the loss of her sister Banaz and the fight against the silences that allow violence – Payzee creates a space where the public is invited to reflect on what separates us and what can unite us again.

Performances 03.- The house of the encounter with the other summons La Ribot and Jone San Martín
La Ribot and Jone San Martín, two essential figures of international contemporary art and dance, meet to present a unique performance created specifically for Barcelona. An exploration of the encounter with the foreign with bodies that approach the edge of contact, that prepare for the abyss of the unknown and the uncertainty of the other. His piece moves between tension and delivery, between possible shock and necessary openness.

Performances 04.- The house of the encounter with the other summons Diego Enrique Osorno
Diego Enrique Osorno is a writer and documentary filmmaker known for his work on violence, power, social movements and drug trafficking in Mexico. The performance in “The House of the Encounter with the Other” creates the room of the interrotron. A space for interviews with anyone who wants or needs to be heard in the city of Barcelona. A place where the gaze cannot escape and each participant faces the interviewer, the camera and himself, generating encounters that reveal a truth that is impossible to represent.

Performances 05
"The house of encounter with the other" ends in Can Framis with the performance of Arquitecturas Afectivas, a community that develops architecture with pleasure. It is the closing of two weeks of performances, open possibilities to bring the meeting into our daily lives and transform the city of Barcelona from a collective and affective place with what was experienced in the previous two weeks. The meeting is a party and it is a journey. It is a real possibility. Are you willing to discover the daring that resides in you?

"The house of encounter with the other", is presented at the UIA-UNESCO International Congress of Architects and the World Capital of Architecture Barcelona 2026. A pioneering project that involves soils and seeds and that performs new gestures together with international artists, thinkers and activists to discover other ways of relating.
