This house is located in La Tallada, a small typical village in the region Empordà, in Spain. The house that was commissioned to be refurbished, had different modifications and extensions throughout the building life that had given a particular appearance of defensive tower to the volume.
The Arquitectura-G project for each cabin is designed as an autonomous piece and has its own furniture built on site and covered with ceramic 13 × 13. The decision to cover all the plans horizontal with this piece, it generates extensive iridescent brown mantles that overlap through the different visual diagonal.

Description of project by Arquitectura-G

This house is located in La Tallada, a small typical village in the region Empordà, in Spain. The house that was commissioned to be refurbished, had different modifications and extensions throughout the building life that had given a particular appearance of defensive tower to the volume. The target of the project was to emphasize this vertical character, which seemed so attractive in relation to the context. It starts in the entrance of the house with an ascending flow through the stairs, accessing and connecting the different areas until reaching the swimming pool, the highest point of the house.

Some of the existing openings of the volume had an elongated shape with arches, which is a traditional typology of the area, so it was decided to copy that pattern and repeat it along the upper floor, both in windows, doors and internal connections between spaces. Also the main façade is taking part of this language, revealing the interior sequence of piled up spaces through a large vertical opening.

Every room is designed as a single piece, and the furniture is built on site and finished in square ceramic tiles of 13 cm. The decision of covering every horizontal surface with this reddish brown element is creating an iridescent widespread system of layers overlapping each other, and being revealed through diagonal views. The trace of time will be visible due to the contrast between the matte tiles of the floor and the reflection of the new and shiny ceramics.

Arquitectura-G is a studio of architecture founded in 2006 based in Barcelona, by Jonathan Arnabat, Jordi Ayala-Bril, Aitor Fuentes and Igor Urdampilleta, mainly dedicated to construction and teaching. They understand their work as a team, where individualities are dissolved in an addition of ways of doing. Material aspect is fundamental for the them, seing it as a field of research. Currently the office includes small projects and starts a new stage to approach larger projects.

In 2008 created ESCRITOS-G as learning tool and to improve the business, with the desire to create a critical discourse and trigger discussion about contemporary architecture. It is a serie of conversations about architecture held between members of ARCHITECTURE-G, the philosopher Ekhi Lopetegi and several young architects whose work has sparked interest in the profession, society and the media.

In 2011 launched INDOORS a section focused on reformulation and internal reorganization of urban housing adapted to living contemporary culture.
