The new private terminal at Manises Airport, designed by the ERRE arquitectura studio, has been built as an independent facility at the airport located in the eastern part of the city of Valencia and largely surrounded by the urban areas of Manises and Cuart of Poblet.

A simple piece, resounding in its materiality and without technological fanfare that helps reduce its energy impact, carrying out passive ventilation actions with which the necessary thermal comfort is achieved.
ERRE arquitectura designed the terminal with a clear and resounding geometry defined by a volume of 120 x 47 meters in which the outer microperforated envelope of the building unifies its image.

Structure design has been one of the great challenges of the project solved by means of rigid metal gable frames with variable depth trusses, all organized by the two large supports of a large depth metal truss that allows the frontal free opening with a 100m span.

Project description by ERRE arquitectura

The project for this newly built Private Terminal proposes a clear and decisive geometry defined by a single volume (120 x 47 meters) in which the exterior metallic materiality that surrounds the building unifies its various functions and structures.

This skin, which in some areas is micro-perforated to allow natural light to enter the interior, gives the project a unitary industrial appearance, whilst being dynamic and variable changing according to time and sunlight.

The functional program is divided into two main areas

•    The area for office use is distributed over two floors between which double heights are created generating visuals.
•    On the other hand, the hangar area will have space to host different aircrafts as well as warehouses.

The design of the structure has been one of the greatest challenges of the project and the element that has most conditioned the final appearance of the building. The structure is solved using rigid metal gable frames with variable depth trusses. In the same way, two elements are proposed to support a metal truss that allow a free front opening of 100 meter to adapt to the functional requirements and demands of the space.

Despite its area and volume, the project has a low energy impact since the main space area (3,794.14 m²) does not require climate conditioning. The natural ventilation of this space is achieved through the strategic installation of three fans, avoiding air stratification in winter and allowing the thermal load to be reduced in summer.

Regarding materiality, metallic finishes and exposed structure have been chosen for the industrial area, thus achieving an appearance more in line with its use. In the administration area, we opted for a warmer materiality shown using wood, as well as open false ceilings and carpets that meet the acoustic and functional needs of these spaces.

The result is a compact architecture that responds to the complex technical and programmatic requirements of a project with such characteristics.

ERRE is an architecture studio based in Valencia, Spain, founded by architects Jose MartíAmparo Roig and M. Ángeles Ros, all trained at the Valencia School of Architecture (ETSA Valencia). With more than 25 years of experience, the studio is made up of a multidisciplinary team that develops a wide range of projects — office, sports, urban, cultural, residential, and hospitality — always with technology and sustainability as the foundation of its methodology.

Some of their most notable and ambitious recent projects include the Roig Arena, the new headquarters of Mercadona, and the transformation of the Port of Valencia. They have also carried out significant heritage rehabilitation projects, such as the buildings that now house the Hortensia Herrero Art Centre and the Grand Hotel Centenari Valencia, managed by ACHM Hotels by Marriott.

Other emblematic works include the Alboraya-Palmaret Metro Station, the Marina de Empresas business school and incubator, and L'Alqueria del Basket, a unique basketball learning building in Europe.

Their awards include the 2024 National Geographic +History Award, the German Design Award Gold in 2023, the iF Design Award in 2023, the ADCV (Association of Design and Visual Communication) Gold Award in 2022, and recognition as finalists for the ASCER Awards (2017) and CSCAE Awards (2022).
