On March 12th, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Agenda (MIVAU) and the Arquia Foundation presented the fifth edition of TAC! Urban Architecture Festival, focusing on energy as a transformative force in urban space. In 2026, the festival will construct temporary pavilions at the CCCB in Barcelona and the city of Sestao (Bizkaia, Basque Country), aiming to highlight the value of urban public spaces and promote the talent of young architects.

TAC! 2026 explores the relationship between architecture and energy, a key factor in shaping cities, from the development of industrial infrastructure to improving climate conditions and sustainability criteria. The festival will be held this year at the CCCB in Barcelona and the city of Sestao (Bizkaia, Basque Country), from October 1st to December 1st and from October 15th to November 15th, respectively.

Energy, a key transformative force in the development of industrial infrastructure and in defining climate and sustainability criteria in cities, will be the central concept guiding the proposals for the competition to design and build the temporary pavilions to be installed at both venues. The call for entries of TAC! Urban Architecture Festival, open to architects under 45 years of age, will remain open until April 30.

"After four editions held in different cities across the country, the TAC! festival has established itself as a key platform for promoting young talent and bringing contemporary architecture closer to the public.” He added, “In this fifth edition, we continue to expand its reach, incorporating new urban and cultural contexts that allow us to explore how architecture can activate public space and generate new ways of connecting in our cities."

Iñaqui Carnicero, Secretary General for Urban Agenda, Housing and Architecture.

"TAC! offers emerging architects a unique platform to experiment with real projects, showcase their talent, and develop innovative solutions that transform public space, consolidating their careers and their voice in contemporary architecture."

Sol Candela, Director of the Arquia Foundation.

Through the construction of a temporary pavilion in Plaça Joan Coromines in Barcelona and another in Labe Garaia Parkea in Sestao (Bizkaia), the festival invites reflection on the role of energy in shaping contemporary cities. Both sites, linked to cultural production and industrial heritage respectively, offer an ideal framework for exploring how ephemeral architecture can activate public space and reinterpret the infrastructures, memories, and landscapes that have shaped urban development.

Within this framework, TAC! 2026 presents temporary pavilions as experimental civic infrastructures: architectural devices capable of articulating energy use with climate considerations and urban activity itself. Through these interventions, the festival invites us to explore new ways of building more livable, sustainable urban spaces that are open to citizen participation.
