The Spanish architect Francisco Mangado has been commissioned to carry out the project for the regeneration and redevelopment of the areas of the Bergamo railway station called Porta Sud. The intervention will connect the part of the city to the south of the railway axis with the center, unifying Bergamo. The Master Plan has already been presented to the city of Bergamo.
The Francisco Mangado project will have an improvement of the road system to integrate more effective connections and improve the areas creating high quality urban environments. The area occupied by the intervention will be divided into two areas and will house a wide variety of functions, such as transport infrastructures combined with residential or tertiary areas.

Description of project by Francisco Mangado

The project proposed by Francisco Mangado and the international and multidisciplinary team appointed by Vitali spa contemplates the remodeling and improvement of a vast urban area of the city of Bergamo, which extends along the railway axis and the urban railway station.

The intervention of the project will consider as a unitary element the overcoming of the barrier of the railway axis (today the dividing element of the city) and the reconnection of the part of the city to the south of the railway axis with the "Piaceninian" center through a large park. The road system will be improved and integrated through the creation of more effective and faster connections between the various transport systems present and the architectural design, dividing and distributing the functional lots and destinations in an integrated manner to improve the areas, creating urban environments of high quality.

The area covered by the intervention is divided into two areas: the intermodal area which is 274 thousand square meters, and the industrial land areas north of 174 thousand, out of a total of 450 thousand square meters.

About this large proposed park the program contemplates a variety of functions, combining transport and mobility infrastructures, such as the new intermodal, with residential, tertiary, cultural areas ..., and strengthening at the same time the health and school infrastructures already present in the area.

The Master Plan of Porta Sud was presented to the city of Bergamo last Thursday, May 10, accompanied by an exhibition at the Palacio de la Ragione.
