The Catalan studio Miel Arquitectos has completed its latest interior project in Barcelona. The reform project developed, consists of the rehabilitation of an entrance hall to a residential building dating from the '70s, a period characterized by power, avidity for renewal, learning, counterculture, and citizen revolt in the Catalan capital.

These characteristics were reflected in the ceiling of the lobby of Pintor Pahissa 39, where its formal constitution followed the fluid melody of that time of youth. However, this dynamism of the 1970s was undermined by the sobriety of the rest of the details entrenched until before the intervention.
The 75m² project designed by Miel Arquitectos has the main objective of revitalizing the space, taking advantage of the natural curves of the ceiling, extending them to walls and details. In this way, it is conferred to the space with continuity and liveliness.

Color plays an essential role since dressing the walls and details in dark blue enhances the qualities of the space. With these gestures, the user is enveloped in a fluid and lively environment that accompanies him at the entrance to the building.

Project description by Miel Arquitectos

The ’70s were a time of hope and revelry, of taking moral and formal risks, of forging new paths and dreams. There were demonstrations that cut the “Avenida Diagonal”, the Catalan “Gauche Divine” had drinks in the Bocaccio, ecologists were born, recognized, and empowered! Ibiza became the Mecca of self-styled hippies; each one composing their personal melody of hope from within.

On the ceiling of the entrance lobby of the building at number 39 Pintor Pahissa street the fluid melody of that time of youth remained stagnant; cornered by the sobriety subsequent parameters it had long been doomed to disappear.

Our project consists of lighting the flame once again; reviving the original joviality of its sinuous curves by extending them to the walls as captains of this conquest of an interior whose most recent inhabitants had been flies and dust.

The timelines, now free and dressed in classic navy blue exalt the walk of the users that dive into this bubbling sea.

You may call us presumptuous but, do you think such a comforting scenario leaves passer-by indifferent? The answer is a resounding NO!

MIEL Arquitectos, directed by Elodie Grammont and Miguel Angel Borrás. They are a study based in Barcelona and Mallorca specialized in residential architecture (ranging from interior design to new buildings). Convinced that surprise is the best tool to rediscover the daily, they feed on the specifics of each client (goals, dreams and needs) and a healthy concern to innovate in each project.

They cultivate a special interest in the rehabilitation and interior remodeling, where they discover and give voice to certain energies remaining in the building and establish a dialogue with the new needs that allow them to redirect their entropy towards suggestive forms of enjoyment.

Since 2010 they have been in charge of the research project "Barcelona Architecture Walks", a tool for disseminating and analyzing Barcelona's architecture through the works of its Masters.
