Aire Retro Bilbao, the new clothing store located in the north of Spain, in Bilbao moves its establishment to number 9 of the central street Gregorio de la Revilla, an area full of shops, very close to the place where it was previously located. The premises are renewed with a different image due to the performance of the Garmendia Cordero arquitectos, organizing the new space with the placement of four mirror-lined prisms.
The project works as a product, showing itself to the public catching the attention of the pedestrian. The store multiplies the space through the use of mirrors throughout the premises that give a great sense of depth by repeating the image infinitely.

The Aire Retro Bilbao establishment by Garmendia Cordero arquitectos provokes a different visual sensation generating multiple points of view through a simple game of reflections creating an unreality of the senses. In this way, the simple space change into another multiplied in infinite occasions.
The use of mirrors affects the image of the shop but also the light since it is reflected towards different angles of the space, illuminating it completely. All this is combined with the use of wooden details and a deep red ceiling.

Description of project by Garmendia Cordero arquitectos
The analyzed disposal of four mirrored triangular prisms organizes a narrow and elongated space. These prisms deal with the resulting routes, work as product showcase and multiply the possible perspectives exponentially.
As a result, a kind mirror maze creates perception confusion. It makes forget the existing volume and induces a different visual sensation depending on the observer's location and point of view. In fact, it transforms one single room into as many as we are able to assume.
One simple game of oblique reflections builds a sensorial unreality that enriches a boring volume and creates a range of artificial spaces much more attractive than reality.
An old fairground trick created at the end of the 19th century that, revisited in a functional way, transforms a lifeless space and multiplies it as many times as we want.

Garmendia Cordero Arquitectos is an architecture studio located in Bilbao and led by Álvaro Cordero Iturregui (ETSASS 2000) and Carlos Garmendia Fernández (ETSAB 2009).
It was founded at the end of 2015, always trying to maintain a way of working based on sincerity, coherence and respect for the context.
They have developed projects of very different characteristics, from ephemeral performances to new buildings, always with a significant percentage of interventions in existing buildings and, in each of the cases, they have tried to ensure that these three premises make up the structural line of the process.
Likewise, they believe that any way of approaching a new project must have the ultimate aim of improving the spaces on which they act, and this is how they approach each new work.
During this time, they have experimented with the relationships generated between the existing and the new architecture that is generated, trying at all times to act with the utmost respect for the context, be it material or intellectual, so that, once the particular history of each case has been analysed, they can intervene in the most personalized and targeted way possible.
They aspire, each time, for this script to end up generating projects with a clear reading where the main intentions of the idea are reflected, giving enormous importance to the function, whether through emphatic volumes, textures or through the exhaustive analysis of each conditioning factor in a global manner, in order to respond to these programmatic needs.
Their intention is always to work at all scales, whatever the size or entity of the project, they have learned to understand architecture in this way and this is how they try to reflect it in each work, taking care of the smallest detail to the largest implementation.
