Design District is a collection of 16 buildings, designed in 2017 by eight architects, set in the heart of Greenwich Peninsula. The Spanish practices Barrozi Veiga and Selgas Cano are among the eight architecture studios, along with the British firms 6a Architects, Adam Khan Architects, Architecture 00, David Kohn Architects, HNNA, and Mole Architects.
The practices designed two buildings each, a total of sixteen buildings, now under construction in London’s new Design District, at the heart of the new Greenwich Peninsula development in London.

Scheduled for opening in September 2020, the new one-hectare design district will provide a permanent base for over 1,800 of London’s creatives across a range of affordable workspaces located at the riverside, close to the Millennium Dome of Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.
The eight architecture firms designed the buildings, with no inkling of the rest of the projects, while landscape architects Schulze+Grassov will create the public realm.

The result is an caotic mix of styles. In light of this, one wonders: Is this a suitable way for new urban structure? The result is an caotic mix of styles.
From autumn 2020, the Design District is part of Knight Dragon, a larger development that is being planned by Allies and Morrison.

ASSEMBLAGE. HNNA
HNNA (formerly ASSEMBLAGE) is a London-based studio of architects and urban designers that was founded by Hannah Corlett in 2004. It works at a number of scales but specialises in rethinking how we design cities.
HNNA has won a string of major international design competitions and was recently commissioned to design the Iraq Parliament and sustainable, human-centric housing for The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat). Having worked on the Peninsula-wide masterplan here in North Greenwich, HNNA designed and developed the masterplan for the Design District and is also its design coordinator.

Stephanie Macdonald, Tom Emerson. 6a architects
6a architects (Stephanie Macdonald, Tom Emerson, founded in 2001) illustrate in their projects a sophisticated experience of space, light and material, also using locations throughout their history. Their work is surprising through its sovereign sense of lightness and originality, without disowning any of its sobriety.
Stephanie Macdonald, studied Fine Arts at the Portsmouth School of Art. Following a scholarship in Japan, he studied architecture at the Mackintosh School of Architecture, the Royal College of Art and the University of North London. His experience before moving to private professional practice includes working with Tom Dixon and collaborations with Glasgow artists. He has lectured to the new creative industries in Berlin representing the ICA and the British Council.
Tom Emerson studied architecture at the University of Bath, the Royal College of Art and the University of Cambridge. He combines his professional practice with teaching at the Architectural Association in London. He has published articles on architecture, literature and art, and has taught at several architecture and art schools, including the Chelsea School of Art at the University of Cambridge, the ICA and the Royal College of Art.
Adam Khan Architects
Adam Khan Architects. London-based Adam Khan Architects has a reputation for sensitivity and elegant buildings that address key issues of our time like social inclusion, sustainability and public space.
In 2010 it won the RIBA National award for its renovation of a day centre for young homeless people in London’s Somers Town and it is currently working on a much larger project in the area, which will include 10 social homes, community playgrounds, a youth club and rooftop multi-use games area.

Architecture 00
Architecture 00 was founded in London in 2005. It’s a collaborative design studio where creatives from a wide range of disciplines work alongside architects to make places that empower people. The studio has a particular track record of innovative workspace projects, including the Foundry in Vauxhall, which was RIBA London’s Building of the Year in 2015.
Architecture 00’s work often rethinks the status quo, through open source projects like Wikihouse (a two storey CNC cut house) and local making platform Opendesk or groundbreaking publications Compendium for the Civic Economy and A Right to Build.

Fabrizio Barozzi, Alberto Veiga. BAROZZI VEIGA
Fabrizio Barozzi born in Rovereto (Italy) in 1976. He currently lives and works in Barcelona.He graduated as an architect in 2003 by the University Institute of Architecture in Venezia. He completed his training in 1999 at the School of Architecture of Seville in 2001 while living in Paris.
He began his training partner in 2003 working as the office of William Vázquez Consuegra and later in 2004 is associated with Alberto Veiga and establish their own professional studio.
He has been Professor of Projects at International University of Catalonia in Barcelona from 2007 to 2009 and since 2009 is Associate Professor of Projects at the University of Girona.
Alberto Veiga (Santiago de Compostela, Spain), was born in 1973 and studied architecture at the School of Architecture of Navarre. After graduating, he worked as an assistant and planner in Patxi Mangado practices in 1997-2001. From 2001-03, he worked as a designer of Guillermo Vázquez Consuegra, where he worked on a number of projects awarded. In 2004 he settled in EBV Architects with Fabrizio Barozzi. Projects currently teaches 3rd year at UIC.
EBV Architects is an architectural firm located in Barcelona and founded by Fabrizio Barozzi (Trento, Italy, 1976) and Alberto Veiga (Santiago, Spain, 1973) devoted to architecture, urbanism and interior design. The experience accumulated over the years in collaboration with renowned architects has allowed prestige EBV start a professional career where independent research plays a major role. The study EBV and has been awarded with many awards nationally and internationally.
David Kohn Architects
David Kohn Architects is a London-based practice established in 2007, which works internationally on arts, education and residential projects. Londoners will best know it for A Room for London, a boat-shaped one-bedroom hotel conceived with artist Fiona Banner that temporarily perched on top of the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the Southbank.
The practice is currently working on a new quad for New College Oxford, an architecture faculty for the University of Hasselt in Belgium and recently completed the Photography Centre at the Victoria and Albert Museum.

Meredith Bowles Mole Architects
Mole Architects. Founded by Meredith Bowles, Mole Architects combines innovation and individuality with a commitment to cutting-edge sustainability. It created the iconic Balancing Barn in Suffolk for Living Architecture and the first developer-led co-housing scheme in Cambridge, Marmalade Lane.
The practice has a reputation for ‘green and gorgeous’ buildings, which you can see in its buildings for The University of Cambridge’s new Eddington site and in its masterplan for a new hillside village in Hsinchu, Taiwan. It was awarded the RIBA Manser Medal and the British Homes Award.

Schulze+Grassov is a growing Copenhagen-based studio of architects and landscape architects established by Louise Grassov and Oliver Schulze in 2013.
The practice has worked on public urban design projects in Denmark, Germany, the United Kingdom and the United States, from rooftop gardens to a scheme in former mining towns.
