Kengo Kuma to build a high-performance building for Bosonit and NWorld in La Rioja

Architecture practice KKAA, led by the Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, together with Javier Villar architect from La Rioja and partner of the studio, have featured the first images of the future headquarters of Bosonit and NWorld. The building will house a new Center for High Performance in Advanced Technologies in the downtown capital of La Rioja.
The building will have a useful area of 5,500 m² built and more than 2,200 m² of public space, including a free-access panoramic terrace that will become an excellent viewpoint over Logroño. After the project is approved by the city council, it is estimated that the works begin in the coming months of 2023 with a rough estimate of inauguration for the beginning of the year 2025.

Kengo Kuma's design pays special attention to its relationship with the neighbouring Church of Santa María de Palacio, on Marqués de San Nicolás street. The volume of the building for the new Bosonit and NWorld headquarters has a staggered shape, which gradually grows until it reaches a façade height of 17.8 meters at the confluence with Calle Puente, standing 3.7 meters below the allowed in urban planning.
The Technological High-Performance Center continues to progress in stages until it reaches a maximum façade height of 23.65 meters (2.85 meters lower than the permitted height) towards the Puente de Piedra roundabout, located a few meters from the Ebro river. It is in this wider area that is open to the river that the panoramic terrace with public access is located.

"n addition to maintaining and enhancing the existing walls on the ground floor, the new façades facing the street blend in with those of the old town, using traditional natural stone in warm tones. It is only towards the inner courtyard where the facades take on a contemporary aspect suitable for public use."

The Technological High-Performance Center is aligned to the streets of Marqués de San Nicolás and Puente de Forma and leaves an open space inside the plot that, thanks to the permeability and accessibility of the project on the ground floor, will become a green area for use public, which will favour pedestrian traffic in the area. An aspect of special relevance as this is a point where the Camino de Santiago enters the city through the Stone Bridge.
The building will be a unique and multifunctional space with offices for more than 500 jobs, training rooms, an innovation laboratory, a business incubator, a student residence, a 500 m² multipurpose room planned for use in events and innovation, and areas for restoration on the ground floor and on the garden terrace.

KENGO KUMA
Kengo Kuma was born in Yokohama (Kanagawa, Japan) in 1954. He studied architecture at the University of Tokyo, finishing his degree in 1979. In 1987, he opened the "Spatial Design Studio". In 1990 he founded "Kengo Kuma & Associates" and extend the study to Europe (Paris, France) in 2008. Since 1985 and until 2009, has taught as visiting professor and holder at the universities of Columbia, Keio, Illinois and Tokyo.
